Infor ION- Business tool or middleware?

It’s been a long time that now Infor ION is in the market and everyone is talking about it. Do the heat and the attention that its getting is it worth the effort? Is it being presented and demonstrated in the right manner in the real world? Do the organization and Companies know the power of ION and what it’s capable of?

Why the question.
I have been giving a presentation on ION and its usage as to how it can impact your business and your day to day activity and after EACH presentation I get to hear, really it can do all this. We thought it was JUST a Middleware for connecting applications with Infor products.

It’s very hard to believe that the customers and organizations still take ION as a middleware tool. No doubt ION is a Middleware, but it’s Purpose “built middleware. What’s the difference you might wonder, well Infor’s Intelligent Open Network (ION) uses XML-based messaging to allow applications to communicate with one another. All transactions end up stored in a repository called Business Vault, which keeps data consistent and also gives customers a way to run reports and analytics off the aggregated information.

So you can easily integrate both Infor and third-party software applications. (The Middleware part)
Create workflows and alerts that dramatically improve exception management. (Event management and workflows)
Design, standardize, monitor, or change any business process without IT involvement. (Ease of use)
Easily monitor your entire business and make better decisions faster (BI part)
In my opinion, ION helps you to organize your business in believing that there is nobody else but you who can organize your own business best, and if implemented like a strategy and not as a tool you can improve your business operations and effectively.
